Amazon announced on Wednesday that they are offering a discounted Prime Membership program to those who are enrolled in Medicaid health insurance (there are more than 35 million American adults enrolled in Medicaid). Those who qualify will be able to take advantage of the $5.99/month membership, as opposed to the $12.99/month membership. Aaron Perrine, a general manager of Lifestage Programs at Amazon had this to say about the offer: "We know a discounted Prime plan is not the solution to every problem customers face, but we believe it's one piece of the puzzle in making their lives a little bit easier." The offer will also help out Amazon, as Amazon believes the program will take some of Walmart's customers and bring them to Amazon (as you all know, Walmart is Amazon's biggest competitor). Perrine is hoping the move will make lifetime Prime members out of those enrolled. In order to qualify for this program, go to amazon.com/qualify and provide an image of your Medicaid card. Once successfully uploaded, your membership will be available. Keep in mind that you will have to renew every year, and the discounted rate is available for only 4 years.
