Over the summer, we all learned that an 80s classic was returning to the small screen. That's right! Punky Brewster is a-go! Soleil Moon Frye is reprising her iconic role as Punky Brewster. Cherie Johnson is also returning to reprise her role as best friend Cherie.
Punky Brewster is now a single mother of 3 kids. Trying to get her life on track, she meets a young girl who reminds her of her younger self.
Freddie Prinze Jr will also be onboard. He will be playing Punky's ex-husband. Apparently, it is an amicable relationship (so, if you're expecting drama, go watch "Real Housewives").
The show will be executive produced by Steve and Jim Armogida. UCP and Moon Frye will also serve as an executive producer. David Duclon, the creator of Punky Brewster, will also be involved in the reboot.
It is unknown as to whether Ami Foster will be reprising her role as Margo (can you IMAGINE what Margo could be doing? I swear, she's probably married to some big lawyer or doctor, living in a mansion, raising her 2 kids, living a privileged life). Hopefully she, along with T.K. Carter and Casey Ellison (for some reason I can picture Allen as a truck driver or doing some type of construction), will reprise their roles. As you all know, George Gaynes and Susie Garrett passed away many years ago. I'm sure we can expect both of them to be honored on the show in some way, as well as the original Brandon (Sandy). As of right now, nothing is being reported about official castings (except for everyone I already mentioned).
My Two Cents
I am extremely excited that this show is coming back. I been following all the news on Instagram. Both Moon Frye and Johnson have been posting about it, as well as Freddie Prinze Jr.
I used to dress like Punky back then, and I remember begging my mom for Punky shoes. Punky was my idol. She was the coolest person on the planet! I think it is genius for the show to come back and for grownup Punky to run into a little girl that reminds her of her when she was little. I freaking love it! I know Susie and George would have loved it!
