If you were on Facebook during the late morning, you probably noticed something strange about each story in your newsfeed. Underneath articles, friends posts, ads, and more, you may have noticed a button that says "Does this contain hate speech?" You weren't the only one. Millions of people noticed the button and were quick to bring it up on social media.
Less than an hour later, the button disappeared.
Facebook released a statement this afternoon, stating that the social media platform was conducting an "internal test," and that the test went live accidentally.
Facebook has since disabled the button.
Facebook is designing the button after it had come under fire for not acting on curbing hate speech in various countries throughout the world. CEO Mark Zuckerberg held an F8 conference on Tuesday and told people that the company is working on ways to keep people safe.
