On Friday morning, a father of 3 girls who were sexually assaulted by disgraced Larry Nassar, attempted to attack Nassar during the sentencing phase.
Randall Margraves was standing by his two daughters in a Michigan courtroom, when he asked Judge Janice Cunningham if he could say something to Nassar.
After using an expletive comment, he asked Cunningham if he could have 5 mins alone in a locked room with "this demon." When the judge refused to grant that, he lunged at Nassar, who was only a few feet away. Margraves was tackled by law enforcement officers and led out in handcuffs.
Cunningham addressed the incident in court, saying:
"What just occurred in the courtroom was scary and caused a level of discomfort. I’m sorry that happened. I know it is hard but I need to ask all of you to try and not react in any physical way. It is not appropriate, it does not send the right message. It actually just causes more pain and more discomfort and certainly we have enough of that in this courtroom as a result of the defendant’s actions."
Nassar has been found guilty of assaulting over 265 young girls, with the youngest victim being only 6 years old at the time of abuse. Nassar will undoubtedly spend the rest of his life in prison, with an additional series of life sentences added to his punishment.
My Two Cents
I applaud the father for what he did. Any parent would be out for blood if someone hurt their babies. As a parent-to-be, I would do anything to protect my son. If someone hurt him, may God have mercy on their soul.
At the same time, we have to have some belief in the justice system. Cunningham had a point when she stated that violence would cause more pain for the victims.
I have to believe that as soon as Nassar settles in his prison cell, his fellow inmates will give him exactly what he deserves. Child abusers don't do well in prison, so I believe legal and illegal justice will be served in this case.
