![]() Step back, Alexa! Looks like there's a new sheriff in town! IBM is looking to introduce its own version of Amazon Alexa, only it would cater to the business world, and not the everyday consumer. On Tuesday, IBM introduced this innovative idea at the THINK conference in Las Vegas. They reveal the concept has been in development for more than a year. What makes Watson much different than Alexa, is that it will be more of a behind-the-scenes "brain" child for many Virtual Assistants. This Virtual Assistant brain will power Virtual Assistants to work in hotels, cars, airports, and more. Watson Assistant is actually in use at Munich Airport. It powers a robot that gives travelers gate information and directions to different areas of the airport. There are already talks to install Watson Assistant in BMWs as an in-car voice assistance program. IBM knows it faces an uphill battle, competing with the ever so popular Amazon Alexa. However, they do not see Watson Assistant as an alternative to Alexa. Watson would be more for large and small businesses. My Two Cents I think this is a great idea. While Amazon Alexa is an amazing Virtual Assistant, there needs to be a Virtual Assistant that caters to the business world. IBM has always been a leader in corporate America (my grandfather worked for IBM for decades and I've learned of their reputation from him). If any company can make an innovative Virtual Assistant to help bring large and small businesses to the next level, it's IBM. Readers: What do you think about Watson Assistant?
