![]() We are in the midst of a TV reboot bombogenesis. If you grew up in the 90s, just about every show on the TGIF lineup has been rebooted. Some have succeeded, others..not so much. Prime time 90s TV shows are constantly being resurrected. One iconic 90s show that hasn't dared been rebooted (YET) is a personal favorite of mine: Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Rebooting this iconic show has been talked about frequently, but the only person holding back further talks is Joss Whedon, the creator of Buffy. Gary Newman, the head of Fox Television Group was asked if BTVS will live to slay another day. He responded, saying: "It’s something we talk about frequently, and Joss Whedon is really one of the greatest creators we ever worked with. When Joss decides it’s time, we’ll do it. And until Joss decides it’s time, it won’t happen." Last year, the cast of Buffy, and the show's creator, Joss Whedon, reunited and discussed the possibility of a reboot: "Everything sort of finds its way back somewhere. I’ve been trying deliberately to move forward and do something a little bit different. But yeah, the great thing is everybody looks great, and the other great thing is the show is about growing up. If we did it with these guys, they’d be the age they basically are. They’d probably play a little younger because they can do that. But yeah, you’d see somebody going through their life at a different stage. It wouldn’t be like, 'I can’t believe we’re still in high school! I wear Depends!'" Newman knows that there is a market out there for reviving classic TV shows. BTVS was a show that was ahead of its time, and its message is still relevant today. Whether you were a teenager, growing up with Buffy and her crew, or your teenagers are watching it present day, the show continues to empower everyone. The show recently turned 21 years old. Basically, the gist of this whole post is that a reboot is being talked about, but nothing is set in stone. It's all up to Joss Whedon. My Two Cents Since day one, I have been a fan of Buffy. I parked my high school freshman behind on the couch and watched the series premiere as it aired. I was mystified. I was attracted to how different it was from anything that was on TV. As the show continued, I was empowered by the female lead. Buffy Summers was the first strong female lead I was introduced to in my life. She is still the coolest and baddest chick on the block (along with Faith). If the show were to come back, I wouldn't be mad at all. I would request that the same people (writers, cast, and creators) be on board. Fan fiction can only carry you for so long (I'm a nerd and have been reading fan fiction since the show ended)! Hey, what about having the old cast come back and their children are fighting the forces of evil alongside their parents? That could be cool, right? I trust Joss Whedon's direction with shows, so hopefully if the show comes back, it will be at the perfect time, with the perfect storyline. Anyways, Happy 21 BTVS! <3 Excuse me while I go turn on BTVS on Hulu.
