What you should know about Facebook's job post feature.

Recently, Facebook users began noticing a job posts page on their account. The feature can be seen in 40 countries, including here in the USA. Facebook is giving businesses the option to post job openings on their page, and they can even run ads promoting the fact that they are hiring.

Those who are actively looking for jobs can easily discover these job openings and they can use their Facebook profile info as their resume. Job seekers will be able to Facebook message these prospective employers in order to schedule interviews.

According to Facebook's VP of local Alex Himel, about one in four Facebook users have successfully found a job using this Facebook feature. Himel also said that while 40% of small businesses have had issues with filling jobs, he hopes that the Facebook feature will improve these numbers for small businesses.

People are worried that the new feature may take money and business away from LinkedIn. Facebook stated that they want to develop similar features as LinkedIn, but for lower-skilled jobs, such as food and retail.

​How can I find employment opportunities in my area?
Simple. Look to the left of your computer screen under "Explore." If you scroll down the list, you will see "Jobs." Click on it and you can begin your search for employment.

I have done test searches to see what was available. You can expect to see a lot of customer service openings, retail opportunities, food service, daycare job openings, contractor openings, and more.

When you see a job that interests you, click on apply. A window will pop up, listing your previous employment, education, and more. You can choose what you want to share and what you don't want to share. I did a test run with a work-from-home data entry job. After I sent the application, I received a Facebook message, confirming that the business received my application and that they will be in touch. While I already have a work-from-home job, I have a baby on the way. If the company is legit, every little bit of money I can earn helps provide for my son.

While this is a simpler way of finding a lower-skilled job, it isn't a guarantee that you will be hired. There are a lot of fake job postings out there. Proceed with caution, and keep your options open. Look for employment on job search sites such as LinkedIn and Monster. Fill out applications in person, and always touch base with the company a week after you submit your application.

If you do get an interview with a prospective employer, make sure you bring a cover letter. Every time I have brought a cover letter with me, I've been hired.​
