Last night, the WWE Universe witnessed the best HIAC match we've seen in years. This match lived up to all the hype and then some. While it took a little time to get going, when business picked up, it REALLY picked up!
We saw a very sick and dangerous side to Randy Orton as he tortured Jeff Hardy inside the menacing HIAC. As you all know, in Hell in a Cell, it is no-holds-barred, no DQ. You can use anything as a weapon. Randy Orton used a screwdriver to play with Hardy's gauge piercings. Both men threw one another into ladders, the cell cage, tables and more. It wasn't til the very end where we saw the daredevil himself, Jeff Hardy, hanging from the very top of the cell (which was more than 30 feet high off the ground). Orton was on a table below him and Hardy had the idea to fall onto the table on top of Orton and put him out of his misery. Hardy waited a few seconds too long. As Hardy was falling to the table, Orton fleed the table. Hardy fell stomach first into the table. Hardy was unable to move from his position, but Orton insisted on the ref counting the 1, 2, 3. After hesitating, the ref acknowledged Orton's request and Orton was named the winner of the match. EMTs came out and carried Hardy out on a stretcher. Preliminary reports suggested that Hardy had abdominal injuries and was vomiting blood. According to his Instagram, Hardy is okay. Orton also suffered injuries, and he posted photos of his injuries on social media. Hardy fans were terrified that Jeff was seriously injured, and they took to social media to express their fright and subsequent relief to find that he's okay. On the heels of Jeff's brother's retirement, many are wondering if the younger Hardy will follow in Matt's footsteps. After all, his (kayfabe) injury from HIAC would open up that door for him to retire from the WWE. What makes me doubt his possible retirement (for now), is that he posted he's okay. That was one hell of a match, and it stole the show. In fact, I think it's the best match we've seen all year, and certainly one of the greatest HIAC matches of all time. I envy everyone who was in attendance last night. WWE Universe: What did you think about this battle? Let me know in the comments below.
