Sad news to report: Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin has died. She was 76. She died Thursday at her home, surrounded by her family and friends. News broke recently that she had been receiving hospice care after battling a number of illnesses in the last several years.
Franklin's illustrious career spanned nearly 70 years. She has been dubbed with such names as the 'Queen of Soul,' and 'The Greatest Singer of All-Time.' She was the first female performer to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Her most famous song, "Respect," has stood the test of time, and is a favorite for millions of people.
Respect is one of my favorite songs and I love blasting it while driving. It is perhaps the most woman-empowered song ever made.
Aretha, you are a goddess and you will be missed. Your music will continue to live on.
RIP Aretha Franklin!
