"In every generation there is a chosen one. She alone will stand against the vampires the demons and the forces of darkness. She is the slayer."
Buffy the Vampire Slayer will be slaying her way into our lives once again!
Producers of the original show confirmed the reboot news when asked by Deadline:
"Like our world, it will be richly diverse, and like the original, some aspects of the series could be seen as metaphors for issues facing us all today."
The show ran from 1996 to 2003 on WB and UPN. It is being reported that the role of Buffy will be played by an African-American actress. As of right now, no one has been cast in the show. Additionally, it is unclear if anyone from the original show will be involved in the project.
Joss Whedon will be returning to his executive producer position for the reboot.
My Two Cents
Usually I'm apprehensive about all reboots, unless the original people are involved. I said the same thing about Girl Meets World, and it was a success. If the original writers and producers all come back, along with several original cast members, the show might actually be worth watching.
I remember sitting on my couch on a Tuesday night in 1996, watching the series premiere. My 14-year-old self fell in love (mainly with Xander and Angel, a little with Giles). I wanted to be like Buffy. I watched the show religiously until the series finale in 2003. I was heartbroken when it ended, and spent several years after that reading Buffy fanfic online.
Anyways, if the show is completely greenlit, I'd to see Xander, Giles, Willow, Dawn (don't judge me. She became less annoying at the end of the show), Faith, and Angel reprise their roles. I don't think Sarah Michelle Gellar is acting anymore, that's why I didn't mention her.
Readers: What do you think about BTVS being rebooted? Will you watch? Who from the original cast do you want to see reprise their role (don't pick Anya, she died in the finale)? Let me know in the comments below.
Below is an ad for oxygen. If my wishes for the reboot come true, I may need some oxygen! LOL!
