Facebook-owned Instagram is currently testing a new feature that would decrease the dependence on popularity, and focus more on a social connection with other users.
The feature was announced at Facebook's F8 conference, with Adam Mosseri (head of Instagram) saying this about the feature:
"We want people to worry a little bit less about how many likes they're getting on Instagram and spend a bit more time connecting with the people that they care about," adding that Instagram shouldn't feel like a competition for likes."
The feature is currently being tested in Canada. Instagram users are able to see who 'liked' their posts, but not the number of individuals who 'liked' the post.
There is no word on whether other countries will see this feature.
