This week, we learned of the tragic passing of Kim Cattrall's brother. He was initially reported missing, and soon after, he was found dead.
Shortly after the news broke of his death, Cattrall's SATC co-star Sarah Jessica Parker expressed her condolences.
On Saturday morning, Kim Cattrall took to Instagram and shaded Parker for "exploiting" her brother's death:
"Your continuous reaching out is a painful reminder of how cruel you really were then and now. Let me make this VERY clear. ... You are not my family. You are not my friend. So I’m writing to tell you one last time to stop exploiting our tragedy in order to restore your ‘nice girl’ persona. I don’t need your love or support at this tragic time."
The two women have had quite the feud through the years. Cattrall has accused Parker of "mean girl" behavior.
It all started in the beginning of the show's run. At the time, Cattrall was the biggest star to be cast on the show. Sarah Jessica Parker and Cynthia Nixon had known one another for years, and invited Kristin Davis into their circle. Cattrall was left out. There was even a moment when Parker, Nixon, and Davis rented a house in NJ for a shoot, and left Cattrall out. Cattrall's only ally on the show, Darren Star, left the show after the second season, leaving her to the wolves. According to NYPost, no one talked to Cattrall for years. For that reason, Cattrall did not want to be a part of the movies (SATC 1 and 2). Rumors spread that Cattrall was making "diva demands," when in reality, she didn't want to have anything to do with people who couldn't stand her. She reluctantly signed on, but refused to do a 3rd movie, wanting to put the past behind her and move forward (Who can blame her?!).
My Two Cents
Knowing the actual history between the four women actually makes my heart break for Kim Cattrall. My heart breaks for her even more now that she is dealing with the tragic death of her brother. The last thing she needs is someone trying to play nice for publicity. Parker could have sent a card quietly, or an email. Because of the history between herself and Cattrall, it was inappropriate to express condolences publicly.
It's like if all the mean girls from my old high school (Class of 2001) suddenly dropped in and expressed condolences to me. It's petty and fake. You make my life miserable for years and now you want to play nice? No way. Go someplace else with that.
