Actress/Newlywed Sophie Turner has been a household name for years. Girls across the world looked up to her, and she seemed to be on top of the world, after all she was one of the most popular TV actresses in the world.
Unfortunately, not everything is as it seems. Turner, 23, recently sat down with Marie Claire Australia and revealed that not only has she struggled with mental health, she was also pressured to lose weight while filming the hit show.
"I have experienced mental illness firsthand and I’ve seen what it can do to the people around [the sufferers] as well. My metabolism suddenly decided to fall to the depths of the ocean and I started to get spotty and gain weight, and all of this was happening to me on camera."
She told the magazine that she was pressured by film and TV execs to lose weight. She went into therapy in order to cope with the pressure.
During an interview with Dr. Phil, she revealed her feelings about how body-shaming impacted her mental health.
"I had no motivation to do anything or go out. Even with my best friends, I wouldn't want to see them... I would cry and cry and cry. Just having to change and put on clothes, I said, 'I can't do this. I can't go outside. I have nothing that I want to do."
Sophie Turner recently tied the knot with Joe Jonas. She revealed that he was someone who helped her through her depression.
"I love myself now, or more than I used to. I'm now with someone that makes me realize, you know, that I do have some redeeming qualities, I suppose, and when someone tells you they love you every day, it makes you realize why that is, and I think it makes you love yourself a bit more."
My Two Cents
I been a fan of "Game of Thrones" since day one, and I have never seen an ounce of extra weight on her. She always looked physically healthy to me. The trolls who body-shamed her are out of their minds.
Not only that, she was a just a girl when the show started. What kind of people body-shame a teen girl?
I'm glad she was able to seek help and fall in love with herself again. This is a prime example on how therapy works. You can dish out everything you're thinking and feeling, and receive coping tools in return. Ms.Turner did things the right way, and she is a great role model to the young women out there.
Well done, young lady, and congrats on your nuptials!
