Retail behemoth Walmart is looking to get a 'leg up' on its competitor Amazon by expanding their home grocery delivery to more than 100 metro areas by the end of 2018.
The decision came after Amazon teamed up with Whole Foods to offer home grocery delivery to consumers throughout the United States. Walmart's home grocery delivery has been in 'beta version' in 6 locations in the US (Dallas, Phoenix, Denver, Tampa, San Jose, and Orlando). All 6 locations have seen satisfactory results with the feature. Vice President of Digital Operations for Walmart, Tom Ward, said this about the expanding feature: "We will be able to deliver fresh groceries to the doorsteps of millions of Americans." The locations of the feature have not been unveiled as of yet. However, Walmart plans on rolling out the list of locations in the coming weeks. When the program becomes active in your area, shoppers will be able to purchase their groceries on Walmart's website or through Walmart's app. You will have to spend $30 or more in order to have your groceries delivered. You will also have to pay a small fee of $9.95. If you place your order before 1pm, you can expect your fresh groceries to be delivered to your door within 3 to 4 hours.
