My Contribution: Lucie had questions that needed answers. She was torn between a fiancé that looks good on paper, and her true love, who had recently stepped back into her life. As she pulled into the parking lot of her psychic's office, she felt her heart beat out of her chest. She turned off the car and leaned back in her seat. Lucie looked at herself in the mirror. She wiped the excess eyeliner from the corner of her blue eyes. She grabbed her purse and pulled out her lip gloss, moistening her full lips. As she blotted her lips together, she tucked a strand of her dark brown hair behind her ears. Lucie took a final look in the mirror and took a deep breath. "You can do this," she said to herself. She smiled at herself and exited her car. Lucie made her way to the door and rang the doorbell. She inhaled the satisfying scent of spring and watched the door open in front of her. A middle aged woman in a flowing max dress appeared before her. "Lucie? Hi, I'm Madame Bennie. Do come in." Lucie flashed a half smile and entered the building. She followed Madame Bennie into a dark room, illuminated with candles. The scent of sandalwood incense intrigued her as she sat down at the table. Lucie looked at the table in front of her. The table had a dark blue tapestry covering it. On top of the tapestry was a crystal ball, with two white candles on either side of it. She watched Madame Bennie pull out a deck of tarot cards. "Lucie, I will ask you to shuffle the tarot deck and to pull out three cards. While you shuffle, think of what you would like to know." Lucie nodded as she took the cards from Bennie's hands. As she shuffled the deck, she thought about the two men in her life. Max, who was a successful banker and had recently proposed to her, and Alan, her 'blast from the past' true love. Alan entered her life the day after she became engaged to Max. Alan and Lucie go back a decade and a half. The passion was undeniable between them. While she admired Max, the passion between them was nonexistent. Lucie took a breath as she pulled out three cards, setting them in front of Bennie. Madame Bennie closed her eyes, taking deep breaths. A minute later, Bennie turned her attention to the crystal ball. "Interesting. Lucie, I see you are at a fork in the road. You have two gentlemen in your life, and you are uncertain as to which direction to take." Lucie felt a lump in her throat. "Yes." Bennie invited Lucie to look into the crystal ball with her. As they peered into the crystal ball, the foggy glass cleared and an image shimmered into view. "Lucie, the crystal ball is showing me a tall man, with dark hair, glasses, chiseled features, and brown eyes. This man's heart burns with passion. Every fiber of his being screams your name. He is your one true love." Lucie's heart fell into her stomach. "Alan," she whispered to herself. Madame Bennie looked at the three cards in front of her. "Lucie, the cards and crystal ball agree. The passion between you and this man is intense and rare. Proceed slowly. Get to know one another again. Slow and steady wins the race. If you jump into anything with him, it will end in disaster. Establish boundaries, and you will last a lifetime with him." Lucie took a deep breath. "What about the other man?" Bennie peered into the crystal ball. "The other man will be fine. He senses things are off with the two of you. Expect a conversation tonight. He will still be a part of your life." Lucie cleared her throat. "Thank you, Madame Bennie." Bennie nodded her head. "You're welcome. Be well." As Lucie exited the building, she felt an overwhelming sense of panic and relief. Her future was clear. Tonight, she and Max would have a conversation. Tomorrow, she would be reunited with her one true love. She knows people won't understand, but, as they say, the heart wants what it wants.
