For the last several weeks, Matt Hardy has been teasing the WWE Universe that something huge was about to happen. Late Saturday night, Matt Hardy announced his retirement from the WWE, in the form of a YouTube video.
He posted the video to Twitter with the following statement:
"Thank you for letting me live my dream for 26 years, wrestling fans. I don't necessarily wish it was this way, but it's time to go home. Time to go home and be a father. Time to go home and be a husband. I did so much more than I ever imagined I would do. Thanks for making this incredible journey with me, ladies and gentlemen. I love you all."
He also mentioned that he has fulfilled all of his live event commitments for the WWE. Additionally, he is asking for all of his fans to put their support behind Bray Wyatt and Jeff Hardy going forward.
The timing of his retirement announcement is weird, considering the amount of rumors going around about his supposed involvement in his brother's match against Randy Orton at tonight's Hell in a Cell. With the announcement of his retirement, it looks like all of those rumors have been put to bed.
My Two Cents
I had a feeling this was going to happen. It's bittersweet as a devoted fan of the Hardy's (for nearly 20 years). Matt is a family man so it's sweet for him to go back to his wife and babies. It's sad because we are losing one of the greatest tag teams in the history of the WWE.
I have a theory about Jeff's match tonight. I have a feeling it's scripted to be vile. It's going to be so brutal, so vile, that Jeff is going to get "hurt" and "hurt badly." This will cause him to also put out an announcement that he will also be retiring from the WWE. This will open them up to be rightly inducted into the class of 2019 WWE Hall of Fame. They belong in the Hall of Fame, with all the fellow greats. Guys, just because someone is inducted, it doesn't mean that we will absolutely never see them again. Things have a way of happening.
Hardy Boyz, thank you for over 2 decades of entertainment. <3
