Actor Ashton Kutcher took to Twitter on Friday, asking the federal government for assistance after a powerful derecho damaged his home state of Iowa during the week. He specifically called out both Trump and Pence, in hopes that his pleas would be noticed. "Where is the federal relief for Iowa? 10m acres of crops have been destroyed. Houses. Communities. Wake up federal gov! What because it’s not called a tornado or hurricane you don’t need to act fast? Come On!!"
In Kutcher's next tweet, he called out Pence, who visited Iowa on Thursday to count votes for the upcoming election. "You were there campaigning. You saw with your own eyes. Do something."
The derecho, which can be compared to an inland hurricane, ravaged 700 miles of the mid-west with wind gusts of over 100mph. Over 800,000 people lost power, and a couple dozen people were injured. The area experienced serious crop damage, flooding, and downed trees. In Iowa alone, 1/3 of all farmland was damaged.
Donald Trump did tweet about sending aid to Iowa BEFORE Kutcher pleaded for help. However, as of today, nothing has been sent.
I'm sure if this happened in Florida, or in another state that loves Trump, aid would have been delivered right after the derecho hit.
