![]() We all know the story of Christopher Columbus. He sailed the ocean blue and "discovered" America. For generations, people praised this man for discovering America. Sadly, most people miss the entire story. They miss the part where Christopher Columbus and his fellow white men stole the country, enslaved Native Americans and killed them. Many Native American women were raped by Christopher Columbus and his people. At least 13 states DO NOT celebrate Columbus Day (Hawaii, Alaska, Louisiana, New Mexico, Maine, North Carolina, South Dakota, Oregon, Vermont, Washington DC, and Wisconsin). I do not recognize Columbus Day and Thanksgiving Day, due to the fact that both holidays represent disrespect, racism, rape, and murder. I am in solidarity with Native Americans, and I HOPE we are gifted with leadership that abolishes both "holidays." Joe Biden expressed his solidarity with Native Americans, by recognizing today as Indigenous People's Day. See his tweet below, and read what he wrote.
This country has never belonged to the white man. It has always belonged to Native Americans. While we cannot go back in time and clean up the mess Christopher Columbus made, we can still recognize that America has always belonged to the Native Americans. WE are the immigrants. WE came into this country illegally. WE need to acknowledge that. We need to treat our Native Americans with the highest respect. Native Americans deserve our respect. I will do my part, and not recognize Columbus Day and Thanksgiving Day as holidays. Note: Donald Trump HAS NOT expressed his solidarity with Native Americans. He expressed his solidarity with Christopher Columbus. No shocker there. They have A LOT in comment.
