"In every generation, there is a chosen one. She alone will stand against the vampires, the demons, and the forces of darkness. She is the slayer."
Buffyverse was delighted to learn that a reboot of the iconic show was coming. Many have wondered if we will see some of the originals reprising their roles. While nothing has been discussed just yet, one OG has already said 'no' to reprising her role.
Sarah Michelle Geller, the original Buffy Summers (I don't count Kristy Swanson because she's a deplorable piece of shit), will not be coming back. Geller spoke to Mario Lopez on his Podcast and said she believes that she's "long in the tooth" for the reboot. The youthful-looking 43-year-old went on to say that the role of vampire slayer requires a teenager. She also joked that she was "way too tired and cranky to put in that work again." She told Lopez that she loves that the story of Buffy the Vampire Slayer still holds up, and that people are hungry for a reboot.
I totally get where Geller is coming from.
When news of the reboot came out, I was super excited (so long as monster Joss isn't a part of it). I immediately started picturing the perfect Buffy reboot. I saw diversity. I saw a strong young woman of color being the slayer
Storm Reid has the perfect look for a slayer. She is equal parts soft and tough, just like Geller. Storm Reid is 17, making her the perfect age to play a slayer.
I would LOOOVVEEE to see Michelle Trachtenberg reprise her role as Dawn. I think she would make the perfect Watcher (either her or Willow).
I would like to see a trans character, a same-sex relationship storyline, more people of color, and more females in critical roles (watchers, teachers, principals, "big bads," etc). Let's update this iconic show with these much-needed storylines and actors.
Who would you like to see on the reboot? Let me know in the comments below, or on social media!
