This morning, social media was on fire with concerns for controversial celebrity Azealia Banks. Banks took to her Insta stories at the wee hours of Sunday morning, and said that life is so hard with the constant ridicule, no intimacy, and no social interaction due to the coronavirus pandemic. She said she was ending her "tenure here on Earth soon." She said that she is not begging for attention, nor asking for sympathy. She said she is ready to go peacefully. Banks, 29, says she is going to document her last times, get all her projects done, and then she will do it. Both fans and haters flocked to social media to raise awareness for mental health, and to beg for Azealia Banks to change her mind. Azealia Banks was among the biggest trending topics on Twitter this morning, with people begging those close to Banks to check on her. Additionally, many on Twitter used this situation to raise awareness of mental health and people of color. One user stated that "A lot of you talk about caring for Black women then ignore Azealia Banks's struggling mental health and toss her aside for saying sh*t about your faves." Many users chimed in with the same sentiment. Azealia's last message was 5 hours ago (current time is 6:52AM EST). You can read the messages in the pic below. My Two Cents I'm not the biggest fan of Azealia Banks (I don't know much about her music so I can't call myself a fan). I have had concern for her through the years because she does seem like she's dealing with something much bigger than she is. As someone who also struggles with mental health (I have depression, panic disorder, and bipolar disorder), I know what it is like. You get into this fight or flight situation, and you sort of scatter everywhere. You conjure up controversy, try different things, and you end up further away from where you should be. the pandemic doesn't make things easier. I had my own mental health breakdown 8 days ago, but it ended up being more of a breakthrough than anything. I digress. Azealia Banks is a human being. As a fellow human, she needs support and comfort. I'm not sure if Azealia or any of her people will see this, but I hope she reconsiders. Death is such a final decision. Her mind-frame is temporary. I'm telling you, overcoming those mental illness demons will make you stronger. You will end up inspiring others with your comeback. Not to mention, your comeback is THE BIGGEST middle finger to your haters. It's hard, so just take things one minute at a time. Talk to someone, call the hotline. Reach out to family. Just talk to someone. I reached out to a friend of mine from 25 years ago. We weren't even close, but she was there for me.
